Lamichhane elected president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The second annual general meeting of the Federation of Canada Nepal Chamber of Commerce (FNCCI) has elected a new leadership.

The meeting held in Toronto unanimously elected Gokarna Lamichhane as the president. Prior to this, Lamichhane was serving as the general secretary of the working committee led by Bijaya Poudel.

The organization, which has been active in Canada for the past 6 years, has been playing a coordinating role in strengthening the trade relations between Canada and Nepal.

The AGM also announced a new working committee for the upcoming term. Laxman Mandal has been elected the vice-president, Nabin Luitel the general secretary, Binod Shrestha the secretary and Surendra Surana the treasurer.

Likewise, Purnima Daga, Ishwor Chand Rajan, Archana Pradhan, Kedar Shiwakoti and Bishnu Poudel have been elected as members of the executive committee.

After the completion of the election, the election officer Dr. On the occasion, Tulsi Dharel congratulated the newly elected executive committee and wished them a successful term. Outgoing president of the organization, Bijay Poudel, stressed the need of active participation of all the members to make the organization stronger.

After assuming the office, newly elected President Gokarna Lamichhane expressed his commitment to develop the organization as a common platform for experience sharing and guidance. He said that he would give priority to concrete and systematic work rather than pomp. Lamichhane has set a goal to take the membership drive as a campaign in the coming days and to integrate the Nepali business community and take their issues to the bodies related to strength.

Lamichhane plans to coordinate with the governments of both the countries to take the business relations between Nepal and Canada to a new height. He further said that for Nepalese who want to start a business in Canada, he will prioritize supporting the start-up process, providing basic information and networking with successful entrepreneurs. He also said that the team will work on how Canada can contribute to the motherland’s economy by adopting the policy of bringing investment of Nepalis living abroad.
