Reforms inevitable to make corporation effective, accountable and citizen-oriented: Minister Dr Bhattarai Timilsina

Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has underlined the need for reforms and restructuring of public enterprises.

In his address to a programme organised on the occasion of the 126th year of the Gorkhapatra publication here today, Minister Khatiwada said the government was doing internal homework to promote the public corporations in a timely manner.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Timilsina stressed the need of a solution-oriented thinking and behaviour as it was not enough to merely point out the problems. “Today is tomorrow’s history. If we can do a good job today, it will guide us tomorrow. Employees should also show high morale to make the organizations they are working with proud,” Timilsina said.

Stating that reforms were inevitable to make public enterprises effective, accountable and citizen-oriented, he stressed the need of restructuring the Gorkhapatra Corporation in tandem with the rapid development of information technology and the impact of digital media.

Recalling the long history of Gorkhapatra, he said there has been a drastic change in the style, methodology and technology of journalism. He said that the time has come to seriously review how the Gorkhapatra could make itself different and effective from other media in line with the changing times.

Stating that Nepal’s linguistic diversity has enriched the country, he stressed the need of giving priority to its protection, use and ownership. He also stressed that the media should work keeping the people’s expectation and trust at the centre.
