Kathmandu. The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has decided not to get its chairman immediately. As the Ministry of Finance is preparing the budget for the coming fiscal year, the board will not be able to get a chairman immediately.
According to sources, the Ministry of Finance will start the process of appointing the chairman of the board only after May 29. A total of 47 people have applied for the post of chairman of the board. In which the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Dr. Gunakar Bhatta’s elder brother (cousin) Dr. Gopal Bhatta has also applied for the same. Gunakar has resigned from the selection committee of the chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), citing conflict of interest after Gopal’s application. After his resignation, the process has been extended.
Dr. Bhatta resigned from the committee. Sanjay Acharya. Along with this, Prof Dr. Acharya is the coordinator of the chairman selection committee of the board. Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Dr. Bhuwan Kumar Dahal, former president of Nepal Bankers’ Association and expert member, Ghanashyam Upadhyaya.
The process of appointing the chairman of the board has moved ahead as Finance Secretary Upadhyay is busy with the budget. This is the first time in the history of Nepal that so many (47) people have applied for the post of president.
Earlier, when the application was opened, there were not so many applications. This time, many applications have been received as it is easier to apply for the post of president. Earlier, an action plan had to be submitted while applying for the post of president. He also had to pay Rs 5,000 in revenue in the name of the state while applying for the post of president. According to experts, while applying for the post of president, there is no need to pay Rs 5,000 revenue in the name of the state, no action plan and only experience and resume have to be submitted.
Those applying for the post of president were required to provide personal details, a copy of Nepali citizenship certificate, a certificate of educational qualification and a certified document confirming professional experience. Likewise, self-declaration in the prescribed format was required along with the notice for submitting personal details for appointment to the post of Chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal published on the website of the Ministry of Finance.
As many as 47 people have applied to the Ministry of Finance to show themselves close to the RSP as they are required to submit basic documents for the post of chairperson. The Ministry of Finance has kept the names of 47 people confidential. That name has not yet been made public.
The applicants for the post of president include past applicants, board employees, former executive directors of Nepal Rastra Bank, employees of NEPSE, self-proclaimed stock market experts, among others.
The committee prepares a list of 5 applicants. 5 people will give a presentation with an action plan. The Ministry of Finance sends the names of 3 of them to the Cabinet. The Council of Ministers appoints 1 person as the Chairman.
