Kathmandu. Nepal Financial Institutions Employees Association (NFI) has expressed sorrow over the demise of Global IME Bank Biratnagar employee Pitambar Khadka. The association has expressed serious concern over the incident.
Issuing a press release today, the association said that the increasing workload in the banks and financial sector, pressure of unrealistic targets, tendency to overwork with limited manpower and lack of sensitivity towards mental health of the employees have raised serious concerns.
According to the association, the constant stressful working conditions are having a negative impact on the mental health, family life and professional confidence of the employees. According to the association, the professional achievements of any organization cannot be greater than the life, dignity and mental security of the employees.
Stating that safe and disciplined work environment guaranteed by the Labour Act and the Constitution of Nepal was the fundamental right of every worker, the bodies concerned should be serious to control unnecessary pressure, mental harassment and unhealthy work culture on the employees.
The association has demanded a fair, independent and transparent investigation into the incident to bring out the truth about the incident. According to the association, necessary action should be taken as per the law if mental pressure, misbehaviour or irresponsible working style is directly or indirectly linked to the incident.
The association has also urged all sides concerned to adopt effective policies for building a healthy work culture in the banks and financial sector, ensuring appropriate working hours, systematic management of extra work, adequate human resources and mental health protection of employees.
The association has also drawn the attention of all stakeholders that the financial sector could not be sustainable and credible without human sensitivity, respect for labour and safe working environment.
