Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey has said that there are many national pride projects. He suggested that such plans should be reduced to only 4-5 in the coming fiscal year.

“Let’s make only 4 to 5 national pride projects. It’s been a big project. Subtract it. He says, “The Mid-Hill Highway MP made his way home. Now let’s dig through the mountain and make a tunnel. ’

Pandey suggested Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle to focus on plan selection, administrative structure, tourism promotion, land management and control of government expenditure.

During the discussion, the lawmakers said that the current LMBIS (Line Ministry Budget Information System) seems to be ministerial centric and that the line ministries should be made more responsible and effective.

They urged the government to focus on limited but effective projects by reducing the number of projects, saying resources are being squandered due to the operation of large number of big projects across the country.

Commenting on the Mid-Hill Highway, some lawmakers have called for an end to the trend of “making a way for MPs to go home”. They were of the view that investment should be made in long-term and modern infrastructure like tunnel way in hilly areas.

Likewise, the lawmakers said that development would not take a momentum unless the laws related to land use were reformed.

They also stressed the need of developing the tourism sector as the major basis of economy and demanded the government to bring a special plan to attract Indian tourists.

Similarly, the lawmakers said that there is a need for a clear policy on the operation of the state-run state-owned industries. They said that the government should take a clear decision on whether to run it or give it to the private sector.

Suggestions were also raised in the discussion to stop the tendency of unnecessarily involving government offices and employees in the purchase of goods.

Similarly, the lawmakers are of the view that a study should be conducted on whether the number of employees can be reduced by 20 percent to make the staff administration efficient.
