Mustang. Pokhara-Jomsom air service has been disrupted. Tara Airlines and Summit Airlines, the private airlines that operate flights to Pokhara-Jomsom, have stopped their regular flights for around three months.
Deepak Pokharel, chief of Jomsom Civil Aviation Office, said that the private airlines companies operating flights from Pokhara to Jomsom have closed their regular flights due to monsoon, adverse weather and tourist offseason.
Pokharel said that although the number of tourists coming to Mustang via Beni via road is still maintained, the Pokhara-Jomsom air service is going to be closed due to the decrease in air passengers. Pokharel said that Tara Airlines has suspended its Pokhara-Jomsom flight from May 22 and Summit Airlines from June 2.
According to the Jomsom Civil Aviation Office, the Pokhara-Jomsom air service is suspended every year during the winter and rainy season. Small aircraft flying here have been flown to Simikot in Humla. The Mansarovar Yatra of Tibet has been opened for Indian tourists and a small aircraft has been sent to there.
Jomsom Civil Aviation Chief Pokharel said although regular air flights have been closed, the emergency charter flights and heli flights would not be halted. During the tourist season, Tara and Summit operate an average of 10 flights daily and more than 150 tourists from Pokhara visit Mustang using the Harwa route.
Suman Thakali, station in-charge of Summit Airlines, Jomsom, informed that the flight has been suspended from June 2. Station in-charge Thakali said that the flight will be operational from August 15.
Similarly, Tara Airlines has also stopped the Pokhara-Jomsom air service from May 22, said station in-charge Sujan Lalchan of Jomsom. According to him, the air service has to be closed due to the start of tourist offseason and monsoon.
Tara Airlines suspended its flight from December 4 to March 1 while Summit Airlines suspended its flight from December 1 to February 1.
