Minister Shrestha directs NEA to prepare action plan for energy sector

. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has urged the Acting Managing Director and Deputy Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to prepare a clear action plan for the effective implementation of budget for the coming fiscal year.
During the discussion held at the NRA, Minister Shrestha stressed the need to complete the projects and programs included in the budget within the stipulated time frame and said that the Ministry would take necessary initiatives to resolve the policy-level and administrative obstacles seen in the course of implementation.TAG_OPEN_div_34 He said that the management of the NRA should take the leadership of the implementation.
Stating that the government has allocated adequate budget for the construction of infrastructures including transmission lines and substations in the coming fiscal year, Minister Shrestha suggested that the subordinate bodies should be mobilized with an action plan so that the projects are completed on time.TAG_OPEN_div_32
Minister Shrestha urged the NRA officials to make maximum use of their long experience, expertise and capacity, pointing out the need to not only identify the problem but also come with concrete proposals for resolution from the management level.TAG_OPEN_div_30
‘This time the NEA has received the budget as per the demand. Now it is the responsibility of NEA to implement it effectively, improve service delivery and ensure quality and sustainable power supply,” he said.
Stating that NEA should pay attention to return-oriented investment along with social responsibility, he expressed the view that the NEA should come to a clear conclusion on the priority projects for the coming years.TAG_OPEN_div_26
During the discussion, Minister Shrestha suggested that the NEA should take forward the issue of electricity bill arrears recovery as a regular agenda.TAG_OPEN_div_24 He suggested that the issue should be taken to a conclusion by regularly monitoring it.
He urged the Deputy Executive Directors to confidently submit suggestions and proposals on strengthening institutional governance, making performance result-oriented and selecting priority projects.TAG_OPEN_div_22
} “My focus is on how to move forward now rather than the debate on what happened or why it did not happen in the past,” Minister Shrestha said. On the occasion, the Deputy Executive Directors presented the progress report of the projects and programs under their respective areas of responsibility and informed about the future action plan.
