Pokhara. KATHMANDU — Massive job creation and skill development in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) is imperative to stem the exodus of young workforce in Nepal, according to the stakeholders.

In this context, Tech Payala Innovations, a leading technology company of the country, has officially inaugurated its Gandaki province level office and services amidst a special ceremony in Pokhara.

Rajendra Malla, immediate past president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce inaugurated the program. Speaking at the event, Mr. Malla said, “Artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology are major bases for Nepal’s economic prosperity, job creation and digital transformation. As the world moves towards an AI-centric economy, Nepal should not delay in policy reforms, research and the production of skilled manpower. “

He added, “To stop the trend of youths going abroad after passing grade 12, an environment should be created in Nepal to move ahead ‘earning, enjoying and learning’.” Nepal can become the digital hub of South Asia if we can establish an AI Compute Center to give access to world-class technology to youth, students, and startups. On the occasion, former president Malla praised Chiranjibi Adhikari, Associate Director of Tech Paila Innovations, for taking forward the concept and campaign of ‘Skill-First’ across the country.

The keynote speaker of the program, Acting President of CAN Federation and Associate Director of Tech Paila Innovations, Chiranjibi Adhikari, stressed on giving priority to skills rather than certificates.

“We have risen above the traditional education system to bring professional courses in AI, cyber security and data science as per the demand of the market. Understanding how AI works is not enough, it is the need of the hour to mitigate the cyber risks that come with it and the manpower that can make safe data-driven decisions. “

He further added, “We need to make digital economy along with AI economy a national priority to create high-value jobs while keeping Nepal’s young talent in the country, spurring innovation, and securing data.” “

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Softed Group Bigyan Shrestha urged the government to provide tax exemption and special concessions to the start-ups to develop AI engine and promote indigenous technology. “SOFTED Group is committed to providing quality and practical education to enhance the capacity of Nepali youths,” he added.

The program was presided over by Gandaki Province Regional Director of Tech Paila Innovations. He has taken the responsibility of leading this technology campaign at the provincial level.
