Nuwakot. The nature of the pain is different, but the injury is the same. Some lost their parents in the Jenji movement a year ago, while some lost their homes and relatives in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods of August 10.

But for children, playing, having fun, and entertaining even in the midst of these pains was an essential element of child rights. Keeping this in mind, Golyan Foundation, a social cooperative organization of the Golyan Group, organized a National Children’s Day program on the banks of the Trishuli River, where the children of the flood-affected children and the children of the Jenji martyr sat together and enjoyed. They got to know each other, made friends. And, they celebrated Children’s Day.

How did this program come about? According to Jyoti Gaire, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications of Golyan Group, the foundation has coined the occasion of Children’s Day to work for both children.

The foundation, which has been educating the children of Jenji martyrs for the past one year, has been providing food as well as child psycho-social counseling, games and educational materials to the children affected by the recent floods at the Chandrajyoti Secondary School Holding Center in Bidur Municipality-5. “In this situation, this program has been organized in Bidur so that we should celebrate Children’s Day by keeping children together,” said Gaire.

For this, the Golyan Foundation took the children of 15 martyrs studying in Kathmandu and their parents to Bidur. There were about 60 children in the Chandrajyoti Secondary School Holding Center in Bidur. The main objective of organizing the program was to bring the children together on the occasion of Children’s Day and celebrate the day in a fun atmosphere. That is what happened.

From face painting to children’s entertainment, various games were played, which added charm to the child’s mind. Children from different geography and different environments not only got to know each other in a moment, but they also developed a bond of friendship. This will lead them together in the future. About 120 people, including children and their parents, participated in the program.

“Celebrating Child Rights Day by bringing together children affected by different psychosocial problems in one place has left a very good impact,” said Bidur Municipality Ward No. 5, who is also affected by the floods. Binod Chitrakar, a member of Ward No. 5, said, “This initiative of Golyan Foundation has given the message that it is everyone’s responsibility to provide happiness to children.” ’

Parbati Adhikari, a member of the martyr’s family, said that the program has added happiness to the faces of the children. “The children of our (martyrs) who had been friends for a year went there and made new friends, we also got an opportunity to understand the pain of the flood victims,” she said, “This has given us the strength to bear the pain and sorrow in life.” ’

Gaire, CEO of Golyan Foundation, said that their goal is to bring smiles on the faces of children who lost a lot of things in their childhood.

“The foundation has been strengthening the right to education of the children of martyrs for the past one year, and lately has been providing food and management work at the holding center for the flood victims,” she said, adding, “More importantly, we have been able to protect the childlike innocence of the children and respect their right to be happy.” She said that the program was organized to ensure that the children can laugh, dream unlimited dreams and enjoy the gifts of childhood.

Golyan Foundation is providing education scholarships up to class 12 to 31 children of Jenji Shaheed. They have been given educational scholarships up to Rs 4.80 lakh annually at the rate of Rs 40,000 per month.
