Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal has said Nepal is committed to resolving the outstanding border disputes through diplomatic channels.
At a press conference held at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi today, Minister Khanal said that Nepal was ready to resolve border related issues between Nepal and India through talks and diplomatic channel.
Replying a question, the Foreign Minister said that Nepal has made its official position before India and China about Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani are Nepali territories.
“The present boundary between Nepal and India was determined by the 1816 treaty. These issues will be resolved through bilateral talks and diplomatic mechanisms. We want to settle the border issues through diplomatic process,” he said.
He said that the report of the Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) prepared by the group formed at the consensus of the Prime Ministers of the two countries should be submitted to them.
In response to another question, Minister Khanal said that Nepal will cooperate with both its neighbors.
He also clarified Nepal’s foreign policy priorities, Nepal-India relations and Nepal’s engagement with the international community.
Meanwhile, the embassy looked forward to continued dialogue and collaboration between Nepal and India in the days ahead to further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.
