Kathmandu. The convention centre will be set up in Itahari.

AB Hospitality (Wyndham Resort and Convention Center) is going to be built with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 people at a time. Necessary financial management for the construction of AB Hospitality, which was taken as the dream project of Deshbandhu Basnet (Ajit) has been completed.

Everest Bank will invest in the bank in collaboration with Muktinath Bikas Bank. Desh Bandhu Basnet, chairman of AB Investment Holding, will lead the project.

Basnet had launched international chain hotel brand ‘Makure’ in Kathmandu last year and recently launched ‘Ramada by Windom’ in Itahari. Basnet, who runs two international five-star hotels, is going to construct an international convention center with resort in Itahari. This is Basnet’s third international level project.

The project is expected to establish eastern Nepal as a hub for tourism, business events, wedding destinations, national and international conferences and exhibitions.

It is expected to publicize the destinations like Ilam, Kanchanga, Chatara Dham, Barahachhetra, Koshi Island, Bhedetar in the eastern Nepal as well as contribute to the identification and development of new destinations.

Nowadays, Indian tourists are coming to Nepal for travel and wedding ceremonies. According to Basnet, the number of Indian tourists is expected to increase after the construction of the conference along with the resort. The convention centre will also be suitable for international events and conferences to be held from South Asian countries.

The project is an achievement of long-term vision to develop Biratnagar-Itahari-Dharan Economic and Tourism Corridor as a major destination of Nepal.

Basnet was of the view that the increasing number of tourists and business arrivals from India, Bhutan and Bangladesh, improving infrastructure and tourism possibilities would prepare the foundation to establish eastern Nepal as the newest tourism hub in South Asia.

Expressing gratitude to the banking partners, investors, consultants and government bodies, he expressed his confidence that this project will not only be a hotel or convention center but will also become a pillar of economic development, employment generation, investment expansion of private sector and overall transformation of tourism industry in eastern Nepal.

The project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, increase the consumption of local products and have a positive impact on the local economy.

The construction of AB Hospitality (Wyndham Resort and Convention Center) has started as part of the campaign to develop eastern Nepal as a tourism and business gateway connecting India, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
