Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Sahi has accused Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle of lying in the parliamentary committee on the issue of tax rate reshuffle.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmaker Sahi reiterated his demand for forming a parliamentary probe committee on the issue of customs and tax evasion. He also accused the Finance Minister of forgetting the issues of good governance raised in the past with the change of government.

Quoting page 152 of the Auditor General’s report, he said that the erstwhile government had waived revenue of Rs 2.50 billion by changing the motor capacity while importing electric vehicles (EVs) through Tatopani, Korala and Rasuwa border points.

Likewise, he said that the Comptroller and Auditor General has suggested to investigate into the issue of recovery of Rs 3.77 billion due to tax and duty exemption across the country.

Lawmaker Sahi suspected leakage of tax information as the vehicles entered Nepal before the new tax rate was announced and the customs clearance was cleared later. He urged the government to form a parliamentary probe committee to find out the truth and not to blame anyone.
