Finance Minister claims to amend NRB Act under pressure from IMF

. Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said that the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 is being amended under pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Finance Minister Wagle said that the amendment of the Rastra Bank Act was one of the important reform programs related to concessional loans that Nepal was receiving under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) program of the IMF.TAG_OPEN_div_14 He said that the NRB Act is being amended to take the final tranche of the program.

According to him, Nepal has been receiving facilities worth about 430 million US dollars under the ECF and is in the final phase of receiving the tranche.TAG_OPEN_div_12 He clarified that the government has forwarded legal reforms related to the Rastra Bank as per the commitment made under the programme.

“The IMF had suggested necessary reforms to further strengthen the institutional capacity, autonomy and good governance of the NRB. Accordingly, the government has forwarded the process to amend the NRB Act,” said Wagle.

He expressed the belief that the amendment of the NRB Act would pave the way for availing the remaining facilities under the ECF programme.TAG_OPEN_div_8
