Govt directs 7 media houses including former managing director of RSP to renew license

. The Department of Information and Broadcasting has directed seven media houses including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane and former managing director of Gorkha Media Network to renew their licenses and licenses within seven days.

Issuing a public notice on Thursday, the Department has urged the organizations that have not renewed their license within the stipulated time as per the National Broadcasting Rules, 2052 to contact the Department within seven days from the date of publication of the notice and complete the renewal process as per the rules.TAG_OPEN_div_14

According to Rule 16 of the Regulation, the license and license of a broadcasting institution is valid for one fiscal year.TAG_OPEN_div_12 If the license is not renewed within the stipulated period, it can be renewed for a maximum of 6 months by paying a fine gradually but if it is not renewed within that period, the license will be automatically canceled.

According to the department, the audit conducted after the directive of the Office of the Auditor General showed that some broadcasting organizations have been making income by operating broadcasting work even when their license has been automatically canceled.TAG_OPEN_div_10 According to the Department, the amount has not been paid yet though the letter has already been sent to these organizations to pay the broadcasting and distribution fee and fine.

The companies mentioned in the notice are Gorkha Media Network Pvt Ltd, Upkar Media Group Pvt Ltd, Balbhadra Media Pvt Ltd, Annapurna Broadcast Media Pvt Ltd, Sayapatri Media Pvt Ltd, Social Media Pvt Ltd and Team Television.TAG_OPEN_div_8
