Food supply affected due to price hike

Kathmandu. The food warehouse based at the Karnali Provincial Office of the Food Management and Trade Company Limited in Birendranagar is full of essential daily essentials. With the increase in the price of petroleum products, the transporters responsible for the transportation of food grains have stopped the transportation citing that the transportation will be expensive.

Chief of the State Office, Keshav Raj Budha, said that the supply has been affected as the transportation fare has increased in recent period with the hike in the price of petroleum products. He said that the transportation work has been stopped due to lack of price adjustment regarding the fare. Food grains are transported to 10 districts of Karnali province from Surkhet.

As the road is obstructed due to snowfall in the mountainous districts during the winter season, the company should have expedited the supply of food grains by making an agreement with the local government at this time. With the price hike, only 30 per cent of the food supply has been supplied to the region.
