Landslide obstructs Besisahar-Chame road

Lamjung. The landslide has obstructed the Besisahar-Chame road section linking Manang to Lamjung.

According to the District Police Office, Lamjung, the road section has been obstructed due to landslide occurred at Kharkhare cliff of Besisahar municipality-6 in Lamjung this morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Office, Jitendra Kumar Basnet said, “There is a possibility of occurrence of landslide in the risky areas as the water level is very high.” The road has been obstructed due to landslides with stones and mud from above. ”

Dozens of vehicles heading to Manang district via Besisahar have been stranded due to the road disruption, he said. Frequent landslides in this area every year have made the journey risky and difficult to travel.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Basnet said that landslide occurred here five to seven years back has been repeated due to lack of control and prevention. Though the federal government has allocated Rs 194.8 million to prevent landslides, the problem has surfaced due to delay in the construction.

The landslide that should have been completed in 2080 BS has not been completed yet. Similarly, the Besisahar Ghalegaun road has also been obstructed by the landslide, police said. Deputy Superintendent of Police Basnet informed that the road section has been obstructed due to a landslide at Puma cliff in Besisahar-6.
