The British College gets international recognition again

Kathmandu. The British College (TBC), part of the British Education Group (BEG), has been re-accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC).

The college has been recognized as an independent higher education institution. As the first and so far only educational institution in Nepal, the college has maintained the international status.

According to a press release issued by the college, the BAC accreditation will be valid till May 31, 2030. In order to receive the accreditation, a team of inspectors from the UK had made a detailed assessment of the college’s academic program, quality of teaching, institutional governance, student support services, educational resources, physical infrastructure, online tuition, extracurricular activities, and employment prospects of graduates.

Founded in 1984, the British Accreditation Council has been a prestigious body for quality assessment of independent higher and higher education institutions in the UK and internationally for more than four decades. BAC is recognized as an international symbol of educational quality, institutional transparency, good governance and excellence.

To be accredited, an institution must meet the criteria in six major areas, including good governance, strategy and financial management, educational and administrative management, teaching and evaluation, student support and guidance, physical infrastructure and learning resources, and quality management and improvement.

Dr. Declan P. Smith, Academic Dean of The British College. Bannon said the accreditation “reaffirms the college’s educational system, the dedication of its faculty and staff, and its commitment to providing an education of international standards.” “This achievement further assures students and parents that quality education and academic excellence are our priorities,” he added.

Founder and CEO of The British College and British Education Group, Rajan Kandel said it was a matter of pride for the college to be the first college in Nepal to receive this accreditation and expressed his commitment to adopt more international best practices in the days to come.

Lucy Fox, deputy chief executive officer of BAC, said: “BAC’s accreditation will demonstrate that the institution has successfully passed rigorous independent assessments in areas such as academic management, quality assurance, student welfare and corporate governance. She also congratulated The British College for its successful re-accreditation from 2021.

The British College has established its identity through international academic programmes conducted in partnership with British universities, collaborations with industry, and practices focused on student career development. The latest accreditation is expected to strengthen the trust of students, parents, employers, and educational partners in the institution.

The college said it had recently successfully re-accredited the institution through an independent international evaluation process, despite misinformation spread by some groups and activities targeted at the institution. According to the college, the achievement will serve as an independent proof that the institution is maintaining international standard academic standards and institutional management.
