RSP is in favour of competitive economy, will work by prioritizing capacity and hard work: Finance Minister Wagle

Kathmandu. Vice-president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle said the RSP was in favour of competitive economy. According to him, the RSP would adopt the policy of making capacity, entrepreneurship and hard work the basis of success rather than being close to the power center.

Addressing the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in Chitwan on Sunday, Wagle said the main problem in Nepal’s political and economic sector was not the lack of resources but the wrong incentive structure.

“We want a competitive economy, where capacity, not access, becomes the basis for success, where entrepreneurship and hard work open the door to prosperity, not capitalism or perverted socialism,” he said.

Stating that the tendency of distributing rather than creating by the state, controlling rather than increasing competition and protecting access rather than expanding opportunities is flourishing, Wagle said the main political objective of the RSP is to change this trend.

He argued that the RSP was not only limited to the campaign of changing the government but also in the campaign of changing the political culture. “We want to move towards meritocracy from division, conscience and rule based on rule based on law and towards citizen-centric democracy,” he said.

Stating that the transformation of the RSP movement from a party to an institutional political force, Wagle said the new generation should prove that it is capable not only to raise questions but also to provide solutions and run the government.

He made it clear that the RSP has set the goal of liberal democracy, competitive economy, equitable society and building a capable state. According to him, civil liberties, rule of law, accountable governance, quality public services and creating opportunities for youths in the country are among the top priorities of the party.

Asserting that people’s capacity, institutional strength and political culture based on new thinking were necessary to establish Nepal as a self-reliant, prosperous and self-confident nation, Wagle described the general convention as the beginning of political renaissance of Nepal.

He called upon one and all to move ahead in the journey of building a liberal, prosperous, equitable and self-confident Nepal by transforming despair into hope, anger into building and rebellion into transformation.
