Taskforce formed to resolve problems related to tea export to India

. The government has formed a taskforce to resolve the problems seen in tea export from Nepal to India.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s press and research expert Deepa Dahal said the task force was formed to study the problems seen in tea export and submit a report along with short-term, mid-term and long-term recommendations within two weeks.TAG_OPEN_div_20
According to him, a taskforce has been formed under the coordination of the joint secretary of the Bilateral and Regional Trade Division under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.TAG_OPEN_div_18
The members of the task force include Under Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Deputy Director General of the Department of Customs, Director of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, Director of Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology, Director of the National Tea and Coffee Development Board and Under-Secretary of the Bilateral Trade and Transit (India) Section.TAG_OPEN_div_16 The under-secretary at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies is the member-secretary.
The Tea Board of India has a provision to compulsorily test the quality of all tea consignments imported into India from the Tea Board of India some time ago, the laboratory fee in the SOP attached to the directorate and the goods must be stored in the warehouse until the laboratory test report is received.TAG_OPEN_div_14
This provision has caused difficulties for small and medium scale Nepali tea farmers and exporters in exporting tea to India and has to stop the cargo vehicles at the customs points for a long time, thereby reducing the freshness and quality of tea and increasing the cost of trade.TAG_OPEN_div_12
