Women in Palpa learning skills to become self-reliant, hope that small investment will improve economic situation

Kathmandu. The women here have started learning skills with the aim of becoming self-reliant. They participated in the training with the support of the local government.

After the local government conducted skill development training targeting the underprivileged groups and communities, they were attracted to the training to become self-reliant by doing entrepreneurship.

Some women have become self-employed by learning skills, while some are learning skills. Malati Adhikari of Kailashnagar of Tansen Municipality-5 said, “We will learn skills, become self-reliant and are directly involved in income-generating activities. ”

She hopes to boost the financial situation as she can start a business with a small investment. Like entrepreneur Adhikari, 34 women here have learned to make shoes and slippers. Ward chair Ram Bahadur Rawal said the women from the disadvantaged communities were imparted the training to make them self-reliant through skill development. He said that the ward has been working to produce skilled human resources and entrepreneurs by prioritizing skills and employment.

“We have been facilitating women and youths to develop their capacity by connecting them with skills and to reach the products to the market,” he said. He expressed the belief that the training would help women become entrepreneurs and increase economic mobility in the city. According to Rawal, women can easily become self-reliant as the business can be run with a small capital.

The women of Rampur, who have been spending their daily lives in fairs, kitchens and household chores, have also been able to weave sweaters, socks, caps and mufflers in the village after the 45-day hosiery training. After the hosiery training was conducted by Rampur Municipality, women who have not even seen Suida will be knitting sweaters, socks, caps and mufflers.

Sita Regmi, a participant in the training, says, “We had not even seen Suida. On the first day, we were very confused. After making daily efforts with the desire to learn the skill, we are now knitting sweaters, socks, hats and mufflers. ”

Rampur Municipality has imparted 45-day training to rural women who have received basic hosiery training under the Deputy Mayor Rural Women Upliftment Programme.

Mayor Raman Bahadur Thapa said the municipality has been conducting skill-oriented training to make women professional and self-reliant. He said that the local government will also ensure the business market by training some women.
