Indian nationals warned not to travel to Iran

Kathmandu. The Indian Embassy in Iran has warned Indian nationals not to travel to Iran citing security concerns.

In a formal security advisory, the embassy said it was “closely monitoring the current security situation in Tehran”.

“Despite the recent positive developments and the improvement in the overall situation, the embassy has issued a revised advisory to Indian nationals who are considering travelling to Iran,” the statement said.

“Despite recent reforms, Indian nationals have been advised not to travel to Iran until further notice,” the embassy said in a statement posted on X.

The embassy had earlier urged all Indian nationals in Iran, including those travelling to Iran for essential purposes, to maintain a high level of alertness, caution and situational safety.

“We must follow the reliable information sources issued by the embassy and follow the instructions of the local authorities,” it said. They have been advised to closely monitor local developments through credible sources of information and to follow all instructions issued by local authorities.

The embassy has strongly directed all Indian nationals in Iran to register their details as soon as possible and stay informed with the information released through the official website of the embassy. The embassy has provided mobile numbers, helpline numbers and email addresses for emergency assistance.

All Indian nationals currently in Iran and those who have arrived in Iran have been directed to register their details with the Embassy of India in Tehran as soon as possible. They have been advised to monitor the embassy’s official website and through social media X.

After the conclusion of the initial phase of technical talks as the first phase of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending the protracted war between the United States and Iran, both sides agreed to set guidelines for a high-level committee and a final agreement within 60 days.

Despite continued diplomatic efforts, fundamental disagreements between each other over international verification access, the long-term maritime administration of the Strait of Hormuz, and Iranian financial reserves remain.
