Landslide obstructs Rajduwali section of Mechi Highway

Ilam. Ilam: The Golakharka-Rajduwali road section along the Mechi Highway has been obstructed due to landslides.

Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal said the road section has been obstructed after the landslide triggered by rainfall last night.TAG_OPEN_div_19 According to him, the problem of landslides along the road which has always been risky and obstruction of vehicular movement has been surfaced in the past as well.
CDO Dhakal said efforts are underway to clear the landslide in order to allow one-way movement of small vehicles following the obstruction.TAG_OPEN_div_17 However, it will take some more time to bring big vehicles into operation as the mud is continuously falling on the road, he added.
“The road has been completely obstructed due to the landslide since last night. We have been trying to clear the landslide debris since this morning to make small vehicles plying one-way, it might take some more time,” CDO Dhakal said.
Similarly, landslides and two trees fell on the Ilam-Jhapa border at Rong rural municipality-4 along the Mechi Ram Marg, police said.TAG_OPEN_div_13 Superintendent of Police (SP) Kuldeep Chand, who is also the chief of the District Police Office, said efforts are being made to resume the road section as well.
People from Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung and Jhapa districts have been directly affected due to the obstruction of the road section.TAG_OPEN_div_11 Vehicles heading to Jhapa from Panchthar and Taplejung and from Jhapa to Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung have been stranded due to the road disruption.
