Give fertiliser, seeds and fair price to farmers: General Secretary Pokharel

Kathmandu. CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has demanded that the government should give farmers a fair price for fertiliser, seeds and products.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of Paddy Day, General Secretary Pokharel said that the government should take the initiative of the government to ensure the full extent of agricultural insurance to protect the farmers from huge losses as there is a possibility of irregular rainfall and drought this year.

Pokharel said that although it is not bad for the farmers who have invested more than Rs 20 million in agriculture, this announcement will not affect the small farmers.

“The government has announced attractive incentives for those who have invested more than Rs 20 million in agriculture. This step is not bad in itself for commercialization and modernization,” Pokharel wrote, “But the question arises whether the ordinary Nepali farmers are capable of such a big investment.”

On the occasion, General Secretary Pokharel said that no matter how much prosperity the world has achieved in physical terms, the importance of food for human life has not diminished. Instead of accepting this reality, the government has made it clear that agriculture, which is considered the backbone of the economy, and the medium and farmers are still not in the priority of the state.

“The incumbent government has been talking about nourishing the middle class by announcing it in its policy and program,” Pokharel writes, adding, “The middle class can survive by struggling on its own, but the poor people who are working round the clock in production need more of the state’s support and protection.” ’
