Tourist arrivals and revenue both declined in Langtang National Park

Rasuwa. KATHMANDU: Revenue collection at Langtang National Park has dropped significantly in the current fiscal year due to a decline in tourist arrivals. With the decrease in the number of tourists, the national park administration has emphasized on the strategy of promoting income generation and conservation simultaneously through local tourism promotion.

According to the statistics of the national park, around 56,TAG_OPEN_div_14 000 tourists visited the park in the last fiscal year. In the current fiscal year, only 50,360 tourists have visited the park so far. Among them, 39,011 are domestic, 788 are from SAARC countries and 10,561 are from other countries.

Revenue collection has also been affected due to the decrease in tourist arrivals. The park has collected only 42.8 million revenue so far in the current fiscal year out of Rs 57.7 million in the last fiscal year, said Park Information Officer Ganesh Prasad Tiwari.

Gosainkunda and Langtang area, one of the major mountain tourist destinations and religious pilgrimage sites of Nepal, have been attracting domestic and foreign tourists every year.TAG_OPEN_div_10 The revenue generated from tourism has been contributing significantly to the conservation of the national park, management of biodiversity and the livelihood of the local communities.
