Myagdi. MYAGDI: A road section at Darwang Bazaar of Malika rural municipality-6 in Myagdi district is to be blacktopped. The road at Darwang Bazaar, the centre of Malika rural municipality, is to be blacktopped and paved through the complementary plan of the federal government.
The road was constructed in 2064 BS at Darwang, which is considered the commercial hub of the western part of Myagdi. The contract for the construction of the project, which was estimated to cost Rs 166,49,732, was signed with Sapkota Builders on February 13, 2082.
Beg Prasad Garbuja, chairperson of the rural municipality, said that they have started widening the road, constructing drains, walls and laying bitumen and chips since last week. “One kilometer of Ullo Bazaar area of Darwang will be blacktopped through this project. ”
Around 300 meters of the area has been blacktopped so far. Upper Bazaar, Dhaulagiri Chowk and Syauli Bazaar areas are yet to be blacktopped. The contractors have applied for extension of deadline as the construction was not completed within the deadline of June 29. According to the representatives of the contractors, the delay was due to the increase in the price of fuel and construction materials and the transportation management on the busy road.
Local Bhabiraj Phagami said the expansion of the road and blacktopping would ease the vehicular movement. “We are happy that the road is going to be blacktopped after 19 years of its operation”, he said, adding, “We are hopeful that the problem of mud and dust will be removed after the blacktopping”. ”
The narrow inner road of Darwang Bazaar, where the settlement has developed rapidly, makes the movement of vehicles inconvenient and there is a risk of accidents. Locals have spontaneously demolished the trunks and huts of the houses to widen the road. This time, the houses and huts of 36 houses in Dhaulagiri and 31 houses in Naya Bazaar Tole were demolished.
After the expansion, the road has been widened. Krishna Acharya, secretary of the users’ committee, said that around 400 meters long drainage was constructed by removing structures on the right and left sides of the road towards Hulakchowk, Tallo Darbang, Pulchowk and suspension bridges last year. There are more than 300 households in Darwang. The locality of Janapriya Secondary School was blacktopped by the Gandaki state government two years ago.
