Narayanghat-Butwal journey eases

Nawalparasi. The Daunne area, which used to get traffic jam for hours despite normal rainfall till last year, has become easier this year. With the construction of the Narayanghat-Butwal road widening project in the final phase, vehicular movement has started in the area even during the rainy season.

Until last year, there was a long traffic jam in Daunne area due to normal rainfall, road construction, landslide clearance works and vehicle failure.TAG_OPEN_div_26 Thousands of commuters had to stay on the road for hours, especially in the rainy season and winter. But this year, most of the road has been blacktopped and the construction has reached the final stage.

The Daunne area of Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-2 of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) has been obstructed 63 times from July 15, 2081 to June 14, 2082.TAG_OPEN_div_24 But this year, that situation has changed. Locals and drivers who use the same road every day say that this year’s situation is different from the past.

Ramu Bhusal, who has been regularly driving on the highway, recalled that it used to take hours to cross Daunne in the past and expressed happiness that he has been able to travel easily now.TAG_OPEN_div_22 “Last year, as soon as it rained, we used to get stuck in the traffic jam. Travel has become easier now as the road has been widened and blacktopped. Travel time has also decreased,” he said.

Ghanashyam Giri, chairperson of Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality, said that locals, entrepreneurs and passengers are relieved after the smooth operation of transportation in the Daunne area.TAG_OPEN_div_20 “The Daunne problem had become a matter of national concern. Now that the road expansion has reached the final stage, the movement has become easier. It has started to have a positive impact on the local economy, tourism and daily life,” he said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Yubaraj Khadka of District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) said that the traffic management in Daunne area has been easier this year as compared to last year.TAG_OPEN_div_18 “Last year, we had to manage traffic jam time and again due to construction work and rainfall. Now the condition of the road has improved and it is easy to operate vehicles. Normally, there is no situation of disruption of the road for long”, he said, adding that the coordination between the police and the project has also made the transport management effective. ”

Shiva Khanal, information officer and engineer of the Narayanghat-Butwal Road Project (East Section), said that the road journey has become easier with the completion of blacktopping and concrete slope of the main road.TAG_OPEN_div_16 “The overall physical progress of the eastern section has reached 92.38 per cent so far”, he said, adding that works like road safety, lane marking, signboards and railings are being carried out. The problems faced by the passengers due to the construction have been removed to a large extent. ”

The Narayanghat-Butwal road, one of the busiest sections of the East-West Highway, is being expanded with the concessional loan assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).TAG_OPEN_div_14 According to the project office, blacktopping and concrete of the main road has been completed in the eastern section of the project while the construction of road safety and other supporting structures has reached the final stage. Although minor works are continuing, there is no situation of disruption of road traffic for hours this year despite normal rainfall as in the past.
