US-Iran tensions: 10 Indians rescued, one still missing as plane attacked near Oman

. Ten of the 11 Indians who were attacked on a commercial vessel near Oman have been rescued while one is still missing, India said on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday, the commercial ship ‘GFS Galaxy’ was attacked off the coast of Oman on Sunday morning.TAG_OPEN_div_32 Following the incident, search and rescue operations are underway, the Ministry said.

According to the ministry, out of 11 Indian nationals on board the aircraft, 10 have been rescued safely while the condition of one is still unknown.TAG_OPEN_div_30

The US Central Command blamed Iran for the attack and said the fire and damage to the engine room had rendered the ship unusable.TAG_OPEN_div_28

According to the UKMTO, the crew abandoned the ship and took refuge in the lifeboat.TAG_OPEN_div_26 The incident took place about 17 kilometers east of the coast of Oman.

The incident comes as Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to the latest US military action and has been conducting missile and drone attacks in various parts of the Gulf.TAG_OPEN_div_24

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed serious concern over the ongoing attacks on commercial aircraft and civilian infrastructure and called for an immediate cessation of such activities.TAG_OPEN_div_22

} The Ministry has stressed the need to restore free and unhindered movement of the international waterways in the region as per the international law.
