Highest rainfall in Chitwan in 24 hours

Kathmandu. According to the Meteorological Division, Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the highest rainfall in the last 24 hours has been recorded around Chitwan-Narayani River.

Rainfall was recorded at 335 rain measurement stations (45 manned and 290 automatic) from 8.45 am on Monday to 8.45 am today. Rainfall occurred in 243 centres in the last 24 hours.

The highest rainfall (319.8 mm) was recorded at the Narayani Field Office Centre in Chitwan district. Three stations around the same centre have received more than 200 mm of rain while 23 stations across the country have received more than 100 mm rainfall.

Disaster management expert Ujjwal Upadhyay said the low pressure trough is shifting towards central and eastern Tarai since Monday night. The incessant rain that has been taking place in Kathmandu and other parts has stopped since Monday night and today’s weather will be a bit sunny and warm compared to Monday, he said. According to Upadhyaya, there will be a risk of inundation around Saptakoshi and Narayani rivers till noon today.

According to the Department, areas around Chitwan and Bharatpur have been inundated at present.
