Kathmandu. Meteorologists have predicted that rainfall will gradually increase in central and western Nepal in the next few days. Meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Sanjiv Adhikari, though the rainfall decreased on Wednesday as compared to Monday and Tuesday, the incremental rainfall is likely to increase in central and western Nepal from Thursday.

According to the Meteorological Department, the influence of monsoon wind is prevailing throughout the country at present. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the monsoon trough is a little closer to the Tarai region in the north than the average place in the western part and close to the average place in the eastern region, increasing rainfall activity in the central and western parts.

According to Adhikari, the weather is generally to completely cloudy in the mountainous and Tarai areas at present. In the last 12 hours, the highest rainfall of 54.8 millimeters has been recorded in Bajhang. Similarly, heavy rainfall occurred in some places around Sindhupalchowk and Koshi Province in the last 24 hours.

Meteorologist Adhikari said there is possibility of moderate rainfall in the mountainous region today. Likewise, rainfall is likely to occur in the hilly region of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

Although some places of the Tarai region are likely to witness rainfall in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, comparatively less rainfall is forecast in the Madhes province. The Department has urged the people living near rivers and streams, in areas prone to landslides and weak topography to take precautions.
