Don’t set qualifications targeting some people: Governor Poudel

. KATHMANDU: Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Bishwanath Poudel has said that the existing structure of the Board of Directors of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) should not be changed unnecessarily.

Speaking at the meeting of the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, Governor Poudel said that the current system is effective as the decision-making process will be complicated when there are many members in the Board of Directors.TAG_OPEN_div_10 “The number of directors and the qualifications of the board are right. There is no need to run a system that is running well,” he said.

Stating that the role of the secretary of the Ministry of Finance is also appropriate, he said that it has been easier to operate the works.TAG_OPEN_div_8 Governor Poudel said, “It is not appropriate to make unnecessary changes where the system is working well. It’s hard to make decisions when you have too many operators. He, however, said that more discussions were needed on the qualifications of governors and deputy governors. He stressed that qualifications should not be determined in favour of one or two people.

“Changing the qualifications of the Governor and Deputy Governor may be considered. But you shouldn’t have the qualifications to suit one or two people,” he said. Stating that the posts of Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Secretary and professors of the Government of Nepal were sufficient qualifications in themselves, such experience and competencies should be respected, he said.
