Chitwan. CHITWAN — The Chitwan administration has urged drivers to fully comply with traffic rules after road accidents and traffic jam have increased along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section following the opening of the road in a hurry.
At least 30 people were injured when three vehicles collided while a bus was trying to overtake a truck on the Narayangadh-Muglin road section this morning. Vehicular movement was disrupted for some time following the accident.
Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Poudel, chief of the District Police Office, Chitwan, said that the accident took place when the bus en route to Muglin overtook the truck. According to him, overtaking has become the main cause of road accidents and traffic jams.
He further said that the risk of road accidents increases due to overtaking, long traffic jam, difficulty in making way for most essential vehicles including ambulances and delay in the rescue of the injured. “The traffic jam also affected the rescue operation in this morning’s accident”, he added.
Vehicular movement along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section and the Prithvi Highway in Chitwan area was halted for a temporary period since 10:00 pm on Saturday in view of the risk of floods and landslides. According to the administration, the accident and traffic jam occurred when the driver overtook the road in a hurry after the road was opened at 5.30 am.
Anil Thapa, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Chitwan, said that traffic accidents and traffic jams could be minimized if traffic rules were followed by the rules. He said that both drivers and passengers would be directly benefited by following the traffic rules.
Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal said the heavy risk of flood and landslide has compulsion to stop the vehicular operation at night due to the high risk of flood and landslide during the rainy season. He said that the support of drivers and passengers along with the administration is necessary for the safe and smooth operation of the transport.
He also warned of stern action as per the law against drivers violating traffic rules and urged one and all to follow traffic rules.
