Kathmandu. WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a $95 billion budget focused on the Iran-based military campaign. The resolution, which was approved by a narrow margin, will now reach the Senate, where there is still uncertainty about whether it will be approved.

The budget package, which was passed by a vote of 216-214, has allocated $ 73 billion for the armed forces and intelligence agencies. This money will be used specifically for the military and security operations against Iran.

At the same time, $ 12 billion has been allocated to provide relief to farmers affected by President Donald Trump’s trade policies. An additional $10 billion has been allocated for election-related programs nationwide. The measure is aligned with Trump’s plan to introduce new voting restrictions, but his sweeping Save America Act has not garnered the political support it needs.

The proposal, which was seen as a key legislative priority for Republicans ahead of November’s midterm elections, is now just a preliminary budget draft. If approved by the Senate, Republican lawmakers in the House will prepare a detailed legislative draft in the coming months.

The Senate is expected to then use a strategy to pass the bill by a simple majority through a special budget process without the support normally needed by 60 votes.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said the decision paves the way for congressional Republicans to accomplish their twin key objectives: securing America’s electoral systems and strengthening national security.

Democratic Congresswoman Rosa DeLoro criticized the budget for providing financial resources to continue the war against Iran. “Americans want to see more open, costly and protracted wars in the Middle East, but lower prices for essential goods and services, such as food, housing, healthcare, child care, and fuel,” he said.

In the US, the rising cost of living and persistent inflation have become one of the key political issues in the upcoming midterm elections, making the debate over the budget proposal all the more sensitive.
