Kathmandu. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to provide a total compensation of Rs 1.571 million to a child who was critically injured after touching a wire of 11 KV power transmission line at Ghuseni of Triveni Rural Municipality-2 in Nawalparasi (Susta East). A meeting of the Board of Directors of the NRA approved the amount along with medical expenses, compensation and other expenses.

According to the NEA, the boy was playing on the roof of the building of a mothers’ group at Ghuseri of Triveni rural municipality-2 in Nawalparasi (Susta East) when he came in contact with the wire of the nearby 11 KV transmission line. The approved amount will be provided to the victim’s family through the concerned distribution center, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority.

The NRA has been paying the compensation and medical treatment expenses as per the sub-rule 11 of the Accident Compensation By-law, 2067. According to the NRA’s bylaws, the chief of the medical department, the concerned deputy executive director should decide on the compensation of Rs 200,000 to Rs 500,000, the chief administrative officer of Rs 500,000 to Rs 10 lakh and the board of directors of more than Rs 10 lakh.

On the occasion, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the support was provided to the victim’s family on the basis of legal provisions and past precedents.

“This amount is not going to make the pain go away, but it is expected to help with a small amount of livelihood. Minister Shrestha said, “Insurance, treatment and compensation are the issues that are being done on one side. However, the NEA and civil society should be aware to reduce the increasing number of electrical accidents in recent days. ’

Stating that the data on loss of life and property due to electrical accidents every year is alarming, Minister Shrestha has instructed the NEA to carry out repair of its structures, increase surveillance in the risky areas, increase security alertness and speed up the works related to public awareness and early information. He also said that public awareness was imperative to reduce electrical accidents.
