Chitwan. CHITWAN — Vehicular movement along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section has been obstructed to cut down the mound by stopping the vehicular movement. The Division Road Office, Chitwan has urged the construction company which was awarded the contract to control the landslide to stop the road and make preparations to cut the mound.

According to Arjun Ghimire, an engineer at the office, discussions are being held at the District Administration Office on Saturday. The work will proceed after the time of stopping the vehicle will be fixed in consultation with the administration. The construction company has already brought an excavator and loader in the tuin shell.

According to Ghimire, it is estimated that around two months the risky mounds can be removed if the road is blocked for two to three hours daily. He said that the administration would be requested to stop the vehicular movement during the day time as the vehicular movement would be less during the daytime. This road is the lifeline of the capital. More than 10,000 vehicles ply the road section every day.

Babri Construction has been awarded a contract of Rs 22.21 crore for the removal of the risk of landslides on the Narayangadh side of Tuin River and Muglin side of Namsi. The work of both the places has to be completed in the next 10 months.

In the first phase, with the help of jack hammers, people will have to take down the dangerous mounds by hanging them. After that, the rod will be drilled on the wall and the landslide will be stopped by laying a net from the outside. This is called ‘nailing’. He said that the work will be done in both places.

The road section was obstructed for more than 100 hours after a landslide occurred on September 19 and 7 last year. It is 105 meters high and 165 meters long. The Muglin mound of Namsi is 60 meters high and 100 meters long. The area is at high risk after a landslide occurred last year at Tuin River, which was cut down during the road expansion drive some years ago.

There is a risk of landslides in 43 places along the road section. Equipment has been placed at the confluence of Muglin and Seti to remove the landslide as landslide debris can occur at any time. Muglin has one loader while Seti Dovan has loader, excavator, back hu loader, tipper, tailor and mini excavator.
