Harishayani Ekadashi, Tulsi saplings being shifted today

Kathmandu. Every year, on the occasion of Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi, a special worship of Tulsi plants is performed in every house for four months.

A month ago, on the day of Jyeshtha Shukla Ekadashi, the sapling of the pulse kept in the Tulsi moth of the house is transferred to the moth today. According to the Sanatan Vedic tradition, Tulsi is considered as a symbol of Vishnu. From today till Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, special worship of Tulsi is performed.

Prof Dr Devmani Bhattarai, a religious scholar and former member of the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee, said that the day is called Harishayani Ekadashi as Lord Vishnu sleeps in the Kshirsagar temple for four months from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi.TAG_OPEN_div_20 The four months when Lord Vishnu sleeps are also called Chaturmasa.
