Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has forwarded the process to amend the Nepal Law Commission Act, 2063 BS and sought public’s opinions and suggestions on the draft of the bill.

Issuing a notice on Monday, the Ministry urged the public to provide their comments and suggestions within seven days from the date of publication through the suggestion portal operated by the Ministry. According to the Ministry, suggestions are being collected with the participation of citizens and stakeholders to make the bill more inclusive, effective and practical.

Also speaking on the occasion, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, said preparations were underway to further strengthen the Nepal Law Commission to make the government bill formulation process more institutionalized and accountable. He clarified that arrangements would be made to prepare the drafts of government bills through the Law Commission itself in the coming days by ending the practice of drafting the drafts through consultants and external agencies in the formulation of laws.

The Ministry has been continuing the practice of collecting suggestions and suggestions from the general public on the drafts of various bills in line with the policy of making the law making process more participative, transparent and accountable. The ministry believes that this will increase citizens’ participation in law making and contribute significantly to quality law making.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has announced the fiscal year 2083/84 as the ‘Year for Law Reform and Law Formulation’. As part of the campaign, the Ministry has submitted a list of 166 bills to the Federal Parliament to be formulated in the current fiscal year. The Ministry has been carrying out various reforms with the objective of making the law reform and law formulation process more effective, systematic and time-bound.

Necessary amendments will be made in the bill on the basis of feedback and suggestions received from the general public. After that, the bill will be tabled in the Council of Ministers after taking the opinion of the Ministry of Finance. After the approval from the Council of Ministers, the bill will be registered in the Federal Parliament. The bill will come into force as an Act after it is passed by the parliament and certified by the President.
