Kathmandu. Iran has said it has no immediate talks with the United States, rejecting claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that it is talking.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said Tehran would only open the diplomatic process on its own terms, adding that the United States could not determine the timing of war and negotiations.

In an interview with state television, he said there were no plans for direct talks with the US despite “phased consultations” on Oman’s mediation. According to him, Iran will not accept the practice of taking military action when the US wants and staying in dialogue when it wants. Instead, he claimed that the initiative to end the conflict was from the US and that Washington had sent different messages.

His comments came after Trump recently claimed that Iran had offered talks to stop its military actions. Trump also warned that if a new ceasefire was not reached, military strikes could resume.

Gharibabadi reiterated Iran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming its rejection of an alternative southern sea route and retaining all security and demining activities in the waterway under Tehran’s control.

He warned that any foreign military intervention in the Hormuz region would not be acceptable, adding that European naval ships entering the area could become legitimate military targets for Iran. His comments came amid reports that some European countries could work with the United States to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Gharibabadi said that Iran has a policy of not allowing the Strait of Hormuz to return to its pre-war state, adding that the control of the area has strengthened his country’s defense capabilities. “Control of Hormuz is an integral part of national security and we will not retreat from it under any circumstances,” he said.

Meanwhile, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said it was continuing its military activities to protect the maritime trade routes in the Middle East. CENTCOM currently has more than 20 U.S. naval warships deployed in the Middle East. The warships are supporting the implementation of the steel wall blockade against Iran as well as maritime security operations.

As of July 28, 18 commercial aircraft were diverted, two grounded and two more ships inspected, CENTCOM said in a post posted on X. The US side has claimed that all these steps are being taken to ensure full compliance with the sea route.
