Kathmandu. In the last fiscal year 2082/83, more than 24,000 citizenship certificates and similar passports were distributed by the administrative bodies of Jhapa.

A total of 24,851 people have received citizenship certificates and 24,466 passports from the District Administration Office, Damak and Gaurigunj. The fact that the number of people obtaining citizenship and obtaining passport is almost equal, which shows that youths are still attracted to go abroad for foreign employment and higher education.

In the last fiscal year, 378 people got citizenship by descent in the name of mother. Those who could not identify their fathers were granted citizenship in the name of their mothers as per the legal provisions.

At a time when the Ministry of Home Affairs has been promoting the collection and distribution of national identity cards as a campaign, details of 97,477 people have been collected in the district in the past one year. A total of 98,689 national ID cards were distributed to the general public during the period.

Along with the service delivery, the District Administration Office has also made a significant contribution to the revenue collection. In the fiscal year 2082÷83, a total of Rs 153,11,23,511 was collected including Rs 147 million 79 thousand 451 as passport fee and Rs 6 million 44 thousand 60 lakh as other administrative fees.

The administration has also been active in resolving the complaints of the general public and the problems related to meter interest. In the review period, 479 applications including meter interest, regulatory bodies and vertical complaints were cleared while 929 were provided with minor identity cards.

Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal said the service delivery would be made easy and technology-friendly. According to him, the distribution of passport and national identity card has become more effective as ‘Sewa Satisfaction QR’ has been brought into operation to take the feedback of the service seekers and the public hearing has been continued.
