Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The 43rd meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) has decided to make coordination among all security bodies and stakeholders more effective to maintain social harmony and national unity.

The meeting held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar under the chairmanship of Prime Minister and National Security Council Chairman Balendra Shah reviewed the overall security situation of the country and the incident that took place in Sunsari on July 26, said Kedar Nath Sharma, member-secretary of the Council and Secretary at the Ministry of Defence.

According to him, the meeting has decided to carry out works in an effective manner by maintaining social harmony and national unity by coordinating with all the security bodies and concerned stakeholders to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

Likewise, the meeting also dwelt on strengthening coordination among the bodies concerned for effective and timely operation of search, rescue and relief works during disasters.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal, who was present in the meeting, said that the situation in Sunsari was headed towards normalcy with the joint efforts of political parties, local stakeholders and security bodies. According to him, the meeting stressed the need of continuity of dialogue and coordination at the local level to make the situation sustainable.

“The meeting also dwelt on intensifying the dialogue required to prevent recurrence of such incidents, enhancing capacity of security bodies to make possible crisis and crowd management effective, managing necessary resources and further strengthening training,” he said.

Finance Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Home Minister, Chief Secretary of Government of Nepal and Chief of Army Staff were present in the meeting.
