Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army has constructed 1,411.54 kilometres of roads including 32 road projects. So far, projects like Kanti Highway, Karnali Highway, Jajarkot-Dolpa, Besisahar-Chame, Kaligandaki Corridor and Karnali Corridor have been completed.

The government has been entrusting the construction of difficult terrain, rocky cliffs and road sections that are considered difficult to construct in order to connect remote areas to the road network. NA spokesperson and Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet said that despite limited resources, adverse weather and complex geography, NA has been making significant contributions in the nation building by successfully implementing such projects of national pride and completing the annual milestones.

KATHMANDU, May 12: Nepal Army has handed over the construction of 10.51-km Khandbari-Kimathanka (Chyamtang-Ghongghappa) road project to the Department of Roads on May 11. The project is expected to contribute significantly to local development of Kimathanka area and promote business activities in the future.

Currently, the NA is constructing three roads – Karnali corridor, Darchula-Tinkar and Benighat-Arughat-Larke Bhanjyang. Construction of 79-km road is underway in the Darchula-Tinkar (Tusharpani-Tinkar) road project area under the Mahakali corridor.

According to the Army, 100 percent of the construction of 19.80 kilometers road has been completed in the fiscal year 2082÷83 despite extremely difficult mountainous terrain, steep rock and inclement weather. So far, the project has achieved 25.06 per cent physical progress.

The Benighat-Arughat-Larkebhanjyang road project has completed the construction of Hawadanda-Dobhan road (18-km) out of the 92-km responsibility area of the Manaslu conservation area and handed it over to the Department of Roads. Till the fiscal year 2082÷83 BS, 40.8 km (44.35 per cent) of the project has achieved physical progress.

The Karnali Corridor is the main road project being constructed by the Nepal Army. The Nepal Army is constructing the 22.05-km road stretching from Hilsa of Humla to Jamunaha of Banke along the 682-km long Lalibagar-Dullikunna and Ghatparichaur-Badrigaun-Bhukkakhola road.

The track construction of the Lalibagar-Dulikunna section has been completed and handed over to the Department of Roads. Construction of Ghatparichaur-Badrigaun-Bhukkakhola section is underway. By the fiscal year 2082÷83, 19 kilometers of road has been constructed and 100 percent work has been completed.

So far, the project has achieved 86.17 per cent physical progress. The Nepal Army had installed a bailey bridge at Chuwakhola of Kharpunath rural municipality-5 along the Hilsa-Simkot road section on June 6 to connect Humla with the Karnali corridor with the national road network. It is expected to further strengthen the economic and strategic importance of the nation by connecting Humla of Karnali with the national road network.

In course of discharging its constitutionally mandated responsibility, NA has been carrying out works ranging from construction of new tracks, upgradation of tracks, construction of necessary infrastructures and handing over to bodies concerned in projects of national pride and priority, and connectivity of remote areas to road network.

The main objective of these projects is to expand the national road network by constructing roads of remote and strategic importance and to strengthen socio-economic development and national security in the long run. According to the Army, connecting remote areas with the national road network and providing long-term benefits to the nation from economic, social, strategic and strategic point of view.

According to the NA, it has been fulfilling the responsibility entrusted to the nation by successfully carrying out development works even in difficult and challenging areas by optimally utilizing available resources.

The NA believes that the roads of strategic importance will connect the mountainous, hilly and Tarai areas as well as create a base for promoting trade, tourism, disaster management and local economic activities. The road network is one of the basic infrastructures that can contribute to the sustainable economic development, expansion of access and national security.
