Minister Shrestha directs govt to dedicate government jobs to nation-building campaign

. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said that the prosperity of the nation, infrastructure development and quality of public services would depend on the role of efficient, honest and responsible engineers.
Addressing a training program organized by Water Resources and Energy Research Centre of the Water and TAG_OPEN_div_44 Energy Commission’s secretariat here today, Minister Shrestha said that entering the government service is not just the beginning of a job, but a historic opportunity to dedicate oneself to the mission of nation building.
Stating that he has now entered into the role of civil servant rather than just technical human resources, he stressed the need to work with a high sense of responsibility as every decision, technical suggestion, signature and action will have a direct impact on the lives of millions of citizens.TAG_OPEN_div_42
Minister Shrestha said that the history of development, civilization and prosperity of any nation is linked to the creativity, research, discipline and tireless work of engineers.TAG_OPEN_div_40 According to him, the construction of roads, bridges, electricity projects, transmission lines, reservoirs, irrigation systems, drinking water infrastructure, industrial structures and modern cities was the result of the vision and capacity of the engineers.
He described engineering not just as an application of mathematics and science, but as a field with the creative potential to transform problems into solutions. He said that the role of successful engineers is very important in the development of the nation as they not only build structures but also create opportunities, trust and future.
Minister Shrestha said that Nepal was in a new phase of expansion of energy production, promotion of clean energy, inter-country electricity trade, expansion of irrigation, proper utilization of water resources and construction of climate-resilient infrastructure.TAG_OPEN_div_36 Mercury.
Stating that character is equally important along with knowledge in the service of the nation, he said moral courage is sometimes more important than technical skills in government service.TAG_OPEN_div_34 He was of the view that courage to choose the right path would be the hallmark of a true civil servant.
Minister Shrestha urged all to keep transparency, accountability, impartiality and public interest at the centre of work culture, saying the society’s biggest asset is not the certificate.TAG_OPEN_div_32 He stressed that every civil servant should maintain high moral conduct as people’s trust in the government is built from the honest conduct of the civil servants.
Minister Shrestha said that the rapidly developing technology around the world was changing the nature of engineering, adding that future challenges could not be met without continuous study, research and adoption of new technology.TAG_OPEN_div_30 He pointed out the need to develop an innovation-oriented thinking by regularly updating the knowledge gained today.
Stating that Nepal’s resources should be limited but the imagination and creativity should not be limited, he expressed the belief that geographical challenges could be transformed into development opportunities through effective combination of local knowledge, traditional skills and modern technology.TAG_OPEN_div_28 He stressed on building high quality infrastructure at low cost, climate change resilient design, green energy, energy efficiency, digital technology and sustainability as the basis of development.
Noting that there should not be any compromise on quality in infrastructure development, Minister Shrestha instructed to maintain high quality in every step from design to implementation, from supervision to testing.TAG_OPEN_div_26 He urged the bodies concerned to strictly follow the technical standards and business ethics as even a small carelessness could lead to a big accident. He said that the country expects not only technical skills but also innovative thinking, positive energy, leadership skills and result-oriented working style from the new generation of engineers.
