Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that talks are underway to fully open the Strait of Hormuz after the first round of talks with Iran. He said the next round of talks would focus on denuclearization of Iran.
Asserting that Washington aims to dismantle Tehran’s nuclear capability, he said the second stage of discussion would be on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Earlier in the interaction, Trump said that Iran has been given a “last chance” to reach a deal. He also claimed that the US had stopped the planned military strikes after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Iran asked for permission to continue diplomacy.
Claiming that talks were being held at Tehran’s request, he said he wanted to give Iran one last chance with the support of Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and in particular Qatar’s support.
Trump’s comments came after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghhai denied that Tehran was engaged in bilateral talks with Washington.
