Kathmandu. The Guheshwori Sewage Treatment Centre has been treating 32.4 million liters of wastewater on a daily basis.

Centre chief Ram Kumar Shrestha said sewage treatment plants are being constructed in several places of Kathmandu Valley. Construction plants are underway at Sallaghari, Kodku, Dhobighat, Gokarna and Hanumanghat.

According to him, there is a need to construct more sewage treatment plants to keep the rivers and environment of the Kathmandu Valley clean.

Stating that separate pipe system would be required for the supply of wastewater and rainwater in order to utilize the capacity of the processing plant in an effective manner, he said coordination was being made with the local governments for the same.

It is difficult to process sand, bricks, dead animals and other waste. According to him, the problem occurred when sewage waste and rainwater flow from the same system to the treatment plant.
