Kathmandu. Nepali scientist Dr Shiva Prasad Adhikari has been awarded in the United States of America. He was awarded for winning the prestigious international ‘Research and Development (R&D)-100 Award’ in 2026 for his electro-lith technology.

Dr. Adhikari is working at the prestigious Argonne National Laboratory in the US. The electro-lith technology developed by his team won awards among the 100 best technological innovations of this year, selected from around the world.

This award is often known as the ‘Oscar of Innovation’ in the field of science and technology. The award is awarded annually to an impressive 100 of the world’s most influential technologies, developed by various research institutions, universities and industries.

As demand for batteries grows from electric vehicles, mobile phones, laptops to large energy storage systems, lithium-ion batteries will help to increase production even faster, less expensive, and more efficiently. Since this research could simplify the traditional production process, the technology will save time and energy in battery manufacturing, as well as reduce production costs.

He holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Surry University, UK and a PhD in Chemistry from Wake Forest University, USA, with over a decade of research experience in the areas of energy, batteries, electrocatalysis, advanced materials and new production technologies.

The winners of the 2026 R&D 100 Awards will be formally honored at a special ceremony in Arizona in November. Scientists, engineers, researchers, technology developers and industry representatives from around the world will participate in the event, which will celebrate the success of the year’s top 100 technologies.

“There is no dearth of talent among Nepali students,” he said, adding that his journey has provided an example that one can enter the international research sector after pursuing studies in Nepal. Opportunity, hard work, and continuous learning are required. If we work honestly in our chosen field, we can do world-class research from Nepal as well. ”

Pointing out the need of prioritizing science and technology in Nepal, especially the younger generation should be attracted to science, technology, engineering and mathematics sectors.
