Kathmandu. A direct question-answer session is scheduled to be held with the Prime Minister in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. A total of 11 lawmakers will ask questions to Prime Minister Balen Shah on the occasion.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, lawmakers Samikshya Baskota, Krishna Hari Budhathoki and Amresh Kumar Singh of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) will put questions to the Prime Minister.

Similarly, NC Chief Whip Basana Thapa and lawmaker Geeta Gurung, CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Bahadur Mahar and lawmaker Ganesh Singh Thagunna have also registered their questions.

Lawmakers from the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Barshaman Pun and Pramesh Kumar Hamal and Labour Culture Party parliamentary party leader Harka Raj Rai would also put questions to the Prime Minister. Chief Whip of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Khusbu Oli, is also likely to ask questions.

The lawmakers who want to question the Prime Minister have already registered the written information along with the subject of the question at the Parliament Secretariat. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal (DP) had given time till August 5 to register the questions.

Rule 56 of the House of Representatives Regulations has a provision regarding direct question-answer programme with the Prime Minister. As per the provision, one day of the first week of every month shall be allotted for the first hour of the meeting for question-answer session on matters directly related to the Prime Minister or his/her working area.

As per the provision, the Speaker has fixed the question and answer programme in the meeting on Wednesday. As per the regulation, such programmes could be broadcast live through the government and other media.

A maximum of 15 lawmakers are allowed to question the Prime Minister, but only 11 have registered questions this time. Though seven lawmakers of the RSP are allowed to ask questions on the basis of their partisan presence, only three have registered their questions.

The Speaker shall decide whether the questions received as per the Regulations are admissible. The Speaker can also determine other procedures related to direct question and answer. However, there will be no further discussion on the reply given by the Prime Minister in the question and answer session in the House of Representatives.
