Kathmandu. Although the number of Nepalis going abroad for foreign employment has decreased, the remittance inflow has increased significantly. In the fiscal year 2082/83, the remittance inflow increased by 37.1 percent and reached Rs 2.363 billion. The remittance inflow had grown by 19.2 per cent in the previous year.

According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, a total of 406,519 Nepalis have taken final labour permit (institutional and personal – new) for foreign employment in the last fiscal year. This is less than the previous year. In the fiscal year 2081-82, such number was 505,957.

Meanwhile, the remittance of Nepalis working abroad has increased exponentially. In the review year, the remittance inflow in US Dollars increased by 28.1 per cent to reach 16.19 billion dollars. The remittance inflow had grown by 16.3 per cent in the previous year.

On a monthly basis, the remittance inflow in June has been significant. In July 2008 alone, Rs 242.33 billion was remitted to Nepal. In the same month of the previous year, Rs. 189.11 billion had entered the country.

Similarly, in the review year, the second income i.e. net transfer has reached Rs 2,581.53 billion. Such income had been Rs. 1,874.30 billion in the previous year.

However, the number of Nepalis taking re-labour permit has increased. A total of 385,783 people have taken re-work permit in the review year. Last year, the number was 333,309.
