Kathmandu. The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has announced to provide an immediate assistance of Rs 50 million for rescue, relief and health services of the people affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa district this morning.

The NRNA has taken this decision to provide necessary relief materials, health services and rehabilitation to the flood-affected areas. Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Dr. An extensive virtual meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Hemraj Sharma decided to provide immediate relief and health services to the flood victims of Rasuwa district.

The meeting also called on Nepalis at home and abroad to unite and get involved in humanitarian assistance at this difficult time of natural disaster. Addressing the meeting, Chairman Dr. Sharma said that NRNA would actively work for long-term relief and rehabilitation along with the immediate rescue of the flood-affected people in Rasuwa area.

“The Nepalis living abroad need collective support and solidarity in this difficult time of disaster,” said Dr Khatiwada. Sharma said. According to him, the NRNA would continue providing immediate relief as well as providing health, rehabilitation and other humanitarian support to the affected areas as per the need.

Founding President of NRNA, Dr. On the occasion, Mahato pledged to help mobilize a special team of doctors to reach health services to flood-hit areas immediately.

Dr. Mahato said that he would help mobilize medical human resources and necessary medical materials as the health treatment of the injured and affected people during natural disasters is of paramount importance. He also appealed to Nepalis across the globe to join hands in providing humanitarian assistance as they did in the past during the times of natural disasters that have occurred in Nepal.

The medical team has decided to form structures including a high-level relief and rescue committee, financial committee and volunteer mobilization committee to carry out the rescue and relief works in a systematic manner in view of the possible health risk in the flood-affected areas. The meeting also formed a fund collection committee under the convenorship of treasurer Krishna Timilsina.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Patron of the Association, Dr. On the occasion, Dr Badri KC suggested the NRNA to rescue the flood victims of Rasuwa on the basis of its experience of helping the NRNA during natural disasters in the past. Stating that the NRNA is known to help the country in times of need, he urged all to actively work from their respective places.

NRNA President Dr. Hemraj Sharma. The committee will include the chairpersons of the NRNA National Committee and all the office-bearers of the NRNA related to the flood-affected areas.

The high-level committee will determine the priority of relief measures in coordination with the Government of Nepal, local administration, bodies concerned in the affected areas and national committees of the NRNA.

The meeting also decided to appoint former NRNA executive officer Rabi Kiran Adhikari as the focal person to coordinate with the government in providing relief and assistance to the flood victims.

The NRNA will coordinate with the concerned government bodies including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and maintain effective coordination between the needs of the affected areas, priorities for relief and the assistance to be provided by the NRNA.

The meeting was attended by NRNA central office-bearers, its central advisors, presidents and representatives of various national committees. The participants expressed serious concern over the disaster situation in Rasuwa and stressed the need for immediate rescue and relief as well as long-term rehabilitation of the affected families.

In the meeting, countries including the UK, Canada, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Seychelle, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and China have announced to provide financial support to the NRNA.

The NRNA has also appealed to the Nepali community abroad, the national committees of the NRNA, social organizations and the Nepalis who are willing to help individually to join in the rescue and relief campaign.
