Kathmandu. A total of 178 bodies have been found in the Trishuli and Narayani rivers due to the Rasuwa floods. The bodies found in the river towards Chitwan have been cleaned at Bharatpur Hospital, taken photographs and kept in a dead body bag with tags and kept at the Dead Body Management and Identification Centre.

According to Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Poudel of the District Police Office, Chitwan, out of the bodies recovered so far, 74 are men, 41 women, six boys and two girls. Similarly, body parts of 55 people have been recovered. Of them, 22 have been taken to the identification center while the rest have been cleaned up at Bharatpur Hospital.

He informed that the work of reconciliation of some bodies is being done in the river. A ‘display’ has been started to identify the bodies taken in the photographs. SP Poudel said that the relatives will identify the bodies by looking at the display. He said that the photos of these bodies will also be posted on the portal of Nepal Police.

The old building of the Industrial Business Development Academy, located near Bharatpur Hospital in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-10, under the auspices of the Chitwan Industry Association, has been used as a corpse preservation and identification center. The building has been used as a dead body protection and identification room as the hospital does not have enough space to keep the dead body.

He said that the authenticity of the person coming to receive the body on the basis of identification will be confirmed through the necessary documents, including identity card. After the identification, the body will be brought back to Bharatpur Hospital for post-mortem. Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force have been searching for the dead body on the banks of Trishuli and Narayani since this morning.

He said that the security agencies have been receiving information after the locals and the families of the disappeared found the bodies on the river bank.
