Bhotekoshi floods: Chinese President, Prime Minister’s message: “Nepal is not alone in this tragedy”

Kathmandu. The Chinese government has expressed deep sorrow over the damage caused by Nepal in the floods in Rasuwa. At the same time, the President and Prime Minister of China also gave the message that Nepal is not alone in this disaster and China is always with us.

Finance Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Sunday handed over the financial assistance announced by the Chinese government to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming conveyed the message of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Jiang to the Government of Nepal to meet Swarnim Wagle.

“Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Jiang have expressed deep sorrow over the people who lost their lives in Nepal due to flood disaster. They have paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the floods,” Ambassador Zhang Maoming said, “Nepal is not alone in this grief. China is with Nepal and the people of Nepal.” Ambassador Maoming also said that the Chinese government will continue to support Nepal in the post-disaster rescue and relief efforts.

On Sunday, Finance Minister Dr. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming handed over a cheque of about 30.5 million Nepali rupees (20 million US dollars) to Swarnim Wagle.

Ambassador Maoming also handed over a cash assistance equivalent to 30.6 million rupees (200,000 US dollars) provided by the Chinese Red Cross.

While handing over the relief amount, Ambassador Maoming said that both the countries will jointly face the disaster faced by Nepal and China due to the huge flood in the Himalayan region. Ambassador Maoming said that other types of aid materials announced by the Chinese government for Nepal have also started coming to Nepal.

Ambassador Maoming said that two Chinese aircraft landed 50 tons of relief materials such as tents, blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits and biscuits in Kathmandu today. He also said that additional assistance will be continued.

He also informed the Finance Minister that efforts are underway to bring back the Nepalis stranded in China due to the Rasuwa floods through Mustang’s Korola transit point.

Likewise, Chinese Ambassador Maoming said a skilled human resource including a Chinese helicopter has arrived in Nepal yesterday to rescue people trapped in the tunnel of the hydropower company.

He also informed the Finance Minister that the Chinese government was working at a rapid pace to bring to Nepal a drone that can carry big quantity of goods demanded by the Nepal government for the rescue.
