Narayangadh. So far, 280 bodies of the bodies found on the banks of the Trishuli and Narayani rivers following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River have been collected and DNA samples collected and safely managed at Devghat management site in Chitwan.

According to Bharatpur Hospital spokesperson Dr Ram Prasad Sapkota, the security personnel had brought the bodies collected from the Trishuli River to the hospital since August 24 and protected them. A medical team led by forensic experts has been mobilized since August 26 morning and the task of collecting and recording biological samples including DNA and necessary forensic tests for the identification of the dead body has begun.

According to Superintendent of Police Rameshwor Poudel of the District Police Office, Chitwan, 321 bodies have been collected from the Trishuli and Narayani rivers so far. Of them, 12 bodies have been identified and received by their relatives. Among the bodies collected, 66 are women, 116 men, seven boys, six girls and 126 are unidentified or unaccounted for.

He said that the bodies were safely managed at the management site at Devghat as per the international standards so that they could be identified in the future. On August 29, 96 bodies were distributed, on August 29, 103 bodies were managed and on August 29, 81 bodies were managed.

SP Poudel said that the search for the body on the river bank is still going on on a daily basis. He said that the bodies recovered from the river were brought to Bharatpur Hospital and after forensic examination and DNA sample collection, work is being done to manage it safely at the management site at Devghat.
